Midjourney Launch v5 Language Model with Upgraded AI-generated Artwork
One of the most popular AI text-to-image generators, Midjourney, has launched its new language model, Midjourney v5. The art creator, known for its photo-realistic art generation, released its latest update for paid users on Wednesday.
Midjourney users including Graphic designer Julie Wieland have shared their artwork using the image generator. While sharing her art creations on her Twitter post she said, “MJ v5 currently feels to me like finally getting glasses after ignoring bad eyesight for a little bit too long,” She further said, “Suddenly you see everything in 4k, it feels weirdly overwhelming but also amazing.”
Just a heads-up – Midjourney’s AI can now do hands correctly. Be extra critical of any political imagery (especially photography) you see online that is trying to incite a reaction. pic.twitter.com/ebEagrQAQq

As per Midjourney’s claims, the v5 language model offers “efficiency, coherency, and quality” at an enhanced level to the AI image generator. Where previous IGs generated with an incorrect number of digits of human hands, Midjourney upgrades have successfully managed to generate five fingers per human hand, as per its user reviews.
“The latest Midjourney v5 model is both extremely overwhelming/scary and beyond fascinating,” said Wieland. “Its ability to recreate intricate details and textures, such as realistic skin texture/facial features and lighting, is unparalleled.”
Midjourney uses word prompts similar to Stable Diffusion and DALL-E image generators to create art images. According to ArsTechnica, the v5 model’s AI is trained to use human-made art as a base to create artistic images. However, art creators have questioned the legitimacy of AI-generated art and the debate is ongoing.
Nevertheless, Midjourney v5 users have predicted that further upgrades would make the application so accurate that users won’t distinguish between real art and photography. According to Wieland AI image generators might accompany photographers in the near future.
Midjourney v5 is here! (for real this time, lol)
Here are some side-by-sides of my prompts, v4 vs v5, as well as some new prompts and crowd shots. I’ll add more to this as I experiment.

Midjourney v5 has its own setbacks. Art creator Nick St. Pierre shared several artworks, where he used identical prompts in the Midjourney v4 and Midjourney v5 versions. One of those images was a mesmerizing 1960s street style image of young women. The image looked similar to an outdoor fashion shoot. While observing closely, the viewer could see distorted faces in the scene and floating hands away from the bodies.
However, Midjourney founder David Holz advised on the brand’s Discord release, that the updated v5 model is more sensitive to prompts and responds better to “longer, more explicit text”, delivering improved results. It generates only the wanted text with 2 times higher image resolution.
