After the successful release of the Redmi Note 12R Pro in April, Xiaomi is set to unveil the base model, the Redmi Note 12R, on June 30th in China. With a unique blend of enhanced features and modern aesthetics, the phone promises to offer a competitive edge in the mid-range smartphone segment.

Design

  1. The design of the Redmi Note 12R incorporates a center-positioned punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, surrounded by narrow bezels.
  2. The right edge houses the volume rocker and power button, likely integrated with a fingerprint sensor.
  3. The left edge is reserved for the SIM tray section.
  4. The rear of the phone features dual-camera sensors and an LED flash.
  5. At the bottom, the phone is equipped with a USB Type-C port, a speaker grill, and a primary microphone.
  6. The top section accommodates a secondary microphone and a potential 3.5mm audio jack.
  7. The Redmi Note 12R will be available in four colors – Midnight Black, Sky Fantasy, Time Blue, and Blue.

  1. Display: The phone boasts a 6.79-inch FHD+ display with flat edges and narrow bezels.
  2. Processor: Powering the Redmi Note 12R is the SM4450 chipset, anticipated to be named Snapdragon 4 Gen2, a step up from the Snapdragon 4 Gen1 powering the Pro variant.
  3. RAM and Storage: The device will come with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card.
  4. Cameras: A 50MP primary camera and a 2MP secondary sensor comprise the dual-camera system. The details of the front camera remain undisclosed.
  5. Battery: The device will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery, with fast charging details yet to be revealed.

Under the hood, the Redmi Note 12R features the latest Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, expected to be more powerful and efficient than its predecessor due to the switch from a 6 nm to a 4 nm node. It is believed to come with two ARM Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at 2.2 GHz, six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores capped at 1.95 GHz, and an Adreno 619 GPU. It’s also anticipated to support LPDDR5-3200 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage.

While the Redmi Note 12R is set to hit the Chinese market in June, its global availability remains a mystery. This model, however, signifies Xiaomi’s commitment to providing advanced features and power-packed performance in its mid-range smartphone offerings.
