Xiaomi has unveiled its latest smartphone, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo, in China. The device is expected to be launched globally later this year under the name POCO F5. The Redmi Note 12 Turbo is the world’s first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 chipset, which was announced by Qualcomm earlier this month.
The Redmi Note 12 Turbo has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080p and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Xiaomi claims that the display can vary its refresh rate between 30 Hz, 60 Hz, 90 Hz, and 120 Hz. The device has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and is equipped with 64 MP primary, 8 MP ultra-wide-angle, 2 MP macro, and 16 MP front-facing cameras.
The Redmi Note 12 Turbo measures 161.11 x 74.95 x 7.9 mm and weighs 181 g. It comes with a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 67 W fast charging. However, the device lacks wireless charging integration, which is consistent with the rest of the Redmi Note 12 series.
In addition to the standard colors of Carbon Black, Ice Feather White, and Xinghai Blue, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo is also available in a special Harry Potter edition. The Harry Potter edition comes with a custom back panel, themed accessories, and a different boot animation. Xiaomi adds that the Harry Potter edition also ships with special background images and sound effects.
At launch, Xiaomi offers the Redmi Note 12 Turbo with four memory options. The Harry Potter edition is only available with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. The pricing for the device is as follows, although Xiaomi is offering CNY 100 (~US$15) to CNY 200 (~US$29) discounts for early bird orders:
- 8 GB RAM/256 GB storage – CNY 1,999 (~US$290)
- 12 GB RAM/256 GB storage – CNY 2,199 (~US$319)
- 12 GB RAM/512 GB storage – CNY 2,399 (~US$348)
- 16 GB RAM/1 TB storage – CNY 2,799 (~US$407)
Overall, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo appears to be a powerful and versatile device that offers a range of features at a reasonable price point. Xiaomi’s decision to release a special Harry Potter edition of the device is also likely to appeal to fans of the popular franchise.
