Huawei Mate X5 Unveiled: Enhanced Specs and Features for a Next-Level Experience

Huawei has unveiled its latest smartphone, the Mate X5, just weeks after a series of unexpected product launches. Serving as a direct successor to the Mate X3, the Mate X5 brings significant improvements under the hood while maintaining its iconic design.

Design and Display

The Mate X5 retains its impressive 7.85-inch LTPO OLED main display with a resolution of 2,224 x 2,496 pixels and a 6.4-inch LTPO OLED cover display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,504 pixels, both protected by Kunlun Glass. In addition to the familiar Feather White, Feather Black, Feather Gold, and Green Mountain color options, the Mate X5 introduces a striking new Phantom Purple variant.

The camera setup on the back boasts a slightly updated design, featuring a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture, a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera, and a 12MP f/3.4 periscope module with 5x optical zoom, providing users with exceptional photography capabilities.

Performance and Connectivity

One of the most notable upgrades is the inclusion of up to 16GB of RAM and storage options of up to 1TB. While Huawei has not officially disclosed the chipset used in the Mate X5, reports from China suggest it might be powered by the Kirin 9000s SoC, the same chip found in the recently launched Mate 60 series. This chipset is speculated to be 5G-enabled and built on SMIC’s 7nm process technology.

The Mate X5 also boasts an all-new antenna design featuring Huawei’s Lingxi antenna, which incorporates an AI algorithm to optimize network connectivity. Additionally, the antennas surrounding the device’s frame use dual-mode tuning technology for enhanced signal quality.

Battery and Software

Huawei has equipped the Mate X5 with a larger 5,060mAh battery that supports 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging. The device runs on HarmonyOS 4 and introduces new air gesture controls, allowing users to navigate videos, web pages, and images without touching the main display. Notably, the Mate X5 is IPX8 waterproof and supports two-way BeiDou satellite messaging in China.

Availability

The Huawei Mate X5 is currently available for pre-order on VMall, with open sales expected to commence on September 15. Pricing details have not been officially released, and global availability remains unconfirmed.

With its larger battery, impressive performance, and innovative features, the Huawei Mate X5 is set to make a mark in the competitive smartphone market, offering consumers a compelling choice for their mobile needs. Stay tuned for further updates on this exciting new device.
