Immortals of Aveum Developer Ascendant Studios Lays Off 45% of Staff
Ascendant Studios, the creative force behind the hit game “Immortals of Aveum,” has confirmed the layoff of approximately 45% of its staff. This decision comes only weeks after the game’s successful launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, receiving praise with an 8 out of 10 rating in our review.
Ascendant’s founder and CEO, Bret Robbins, took to Twitter to share the news and provide some insight into the reasons behind this move. In his heartfelt statement, Robbins acknowledged the difficulty of this decision but emphasized its necessity in light of the game’s release on August 22. He stated:
“Today, we are heartbroken as we part ways with friends and colleagues at Ascendant Studios – about 45% of our team. This was a painfully difficult, but necessary decision that was not made lightly; nevertheless, we have to make this adjustment now that Immortals of Aveum has shipped.”
Robbins also expressed pride in the achievements of the independent development team, emphasizing the creation of a new AAA studio and IP, all built on cutting-edge technology. He added that the studio would continue to support the game and the Immortals IP with future updates and offers.
The layoffs have undoubtedly sent shockwaves through the gaming community, with the Game Informer staff expressing solidarity with those affected. These developments closely follow the release of “Immortals of Aveum,” a game that garnered significant attention before its launch, and an exclusive hands-on experience with the Ascendant Studios team.
The gaming industry’s landscape is constantly evolving, and this situation sheds light on the challenges faced by developers even after a game’s successful launch. Ascendant Studios remains committed to supporting its remaining staff and the future of the Immortals franchise, despite this significant setback.
